Masonry Screws
What is Masonry?
Masonry is a construction technique that involves building structure using materials such as bricks, stones, concrete or cinder blocks.
The process typically begins with the selection of appropriate materials based on factors like durability, aesthetics, and structural requirements. The masonry units are then laid out in a predetermined pattern and bonded together using mortar.
Masonry can be categorized into various types based on the materials used and the construction methods employed.
Some common types include:
Brick Masonry: Involves using bricks, typically made from clay or concrete
Stone Masonry: Utilizes natural stone blocks or dressed stones
Concrete Block Masonry: Relies on precast concrete blocks
Reinforced Masonry: Combines traditional masonry techniques with reinforcement materials like steel bars.
In its simplest form, masonry can be described as anything that a mason puts down. In other words, if it is laid by a stonemason or a bricklayer, then it is masonry. This can include building materials such as stone and brick, as well as block walls. Although concrete is not a form of masonry, similar fixings are typically used with concrete, brick, stone, and masonry. As concrete is a tough material to drill into, specialist concrete fixings and screws are recommended to achieve a good result with relative ease. Concrete fixings can be used for light and medium-duty applications and for a variety of purposes ranging from connecting structural elements to attaching wall hangings.
What are Masonry Screws?
Masonry screws, also known as concrete screws or anchor screws, are specialised fasteners designed for attaching items to masonry surfaces such as concrete, brick, or stone.
These screws are typically used when traditional fastening methods, like nails or regular screws, are not suitable due to the hardness or composition of the masonry material.
Masonry screws can be used for numerous jobs including fixing window frames, door frames and timbers.
Masonry screws are typically made of hardened steel or another corrosion-resistant material to ensure durability and strength. They feature a threaded design with unique grooves or threads that allow them to bite into the masonry surface securely.
Masonry screws offer several advantages, including ease of installation, high load-bearing capacity, and the ability to be removed and reinstalled if needed. They are commonly used in construction, renovation, and DIY projects where fastening to masonry surfaces is required.
What we sell
Here at ScrewShop we offer different products depending on what you are connecting. Some screws are self tapping and require no fixings but we also offer fixings as well for those non self tapping screws. Below are some of the products we offer.
Masonry Screws
Self Tapping
Designed for: Fixing timber battens, trunking, track and general components to concrete and masonry substrates
Head style: Countersunk, Drive bit: Phillips No. 2 or No.3 female socket
Coating: EvoShield® 500Hr NSST resistant (Aluminium/ Zinc flake bound in resin) Material: SAE C1022 Carbon steel
Concrete Masonry Anchor Bolt
Self Tapping
Designed for: Fixing to a variety of materials including Brick, Stone, Concrete and Blocks. Made from extremely high quality Carbon Steel then heat treated to achieve tensile strengths of 1080N/mm2
Drill hole to required diameter and depth (see chart) then remove debris. Position anchor bolt through item, and simply screw home with required impact socket/spanner
The unique twin thread design removes the masonry swarf from the thread and stops the tension found on lesser designed anchors
Anchor bolt can be removed for future use
